Copy Room

Created as part of Kristina Podesva’s Vehicle for Langara University, Copy Room functioned as a hub for the redistribution of text and ideas.

Within the academic setting of the University and the conceptual framework of Vehicle, Copy Room tried to interrogate the daily regulation of intellectual property and barriers to information access by subverting the university’s established document duplication economy. As an investigation of the “copy,” the project presented a platform for studying the relationship between material and virtual distributions.

During its month long run, the space also functioned as a self perpetuating reading room, created through duplicates of all copied materials, as well as an meeting space for various discussions including a seminar on “critical counterfeits” such as The New York Times Special Edition project and ASDF’s The Wikipedia Reader.
